The Blue Butterfly

Postby ~~Anita~~ » Sun Nov 08, 2009 3:46 pm

Well, thanks to Netflix, I was able to enjoy another fine movie. It was called "The Blue Butterfly". I chose it, based on it's narrative, and thought it would give me the momentary feeling of being in Belize. Even though it was filmed in Costa Rica.

On my last trip to Belize, I picked up a beautiful painting of a Blue Butterfly, in Dangriga. I got it mainly, because I was attracted to the blue colors, with spashes of red from an orchid. When I showed it to someone, they stated that it was a blue morpho, and the butterfly of Belize. I haven't verified the truth in that. None the less, it was what sparked my interest to see this movie.

Hubby & I enjoyed the movie. It might have been a little predictable, but good none the less. The filming was beautiful, with alot of closeups, and we saw many plants, animals, & "BUGS" that we have had the fortune of coming across in our travels in Belize. The sounds of the rain forest were also evident in the movie, and also reminded me of the sounds I experience when "lounging" in the jungle.

I hope someone else will have the opportunity to see this movie and enjoy it as well. I'm sure any bug lovers will also find this movie a treat.

edit to add: Ooops!! Seems the Weblink I provided, also provided my personal info. :hsheep:

OK, let's see if this works:

ahhhhhh... the Blue Morpho is freakin' gorgeous !!

I never knew that color existed in Nature until one fluttered by me here at Darwin Farm.

apparently, it's the males who are such a bright vivid blue, the females are duller in hue:

Many of the morpho butterlfies in butterfly farms around the world are bred in Toledo by Ian Morton of Hickatee Cottages.

They ship off the crysalises (sp?) and when the caterpillars wake up, not only are they now butterflies, they're now in another part of the world!

chrysalises

lol

Tino and Genoveva Penados have ranks and ranks of trays, and breed butterflies for the small butterfly farm at The Trek Stop...

a few years ago, I got to see how it's done, and it's amazing, they're in all stages of growth, from larvae to pupae, or whatever they're called.

I've been wanting to check out Trek Stop, and Hickatee Cottages.

So many sites, so little time & money.

They are my two favourite accommodations in Belize! Well, maybe two of the main ones.

hey, 'Neeter... good thing The Trek Stop is inexpensive... we stayed there for a wonderful week, back in 2004.

used it as our base for exploration of Cayo.

I sure miss John and Judy.

Flora isn't cooking there anymore, her daughter liliane has taken over the job.

Rojelio is still doing the landscaping and repairs, and Amelio still helps out with construction projects.

and I saw another Blue Morpho fluttering by here at Darwin...

the electric blue is breathtaking, simply the most beautiful thing in this world.
