luckily, we just happened to chance upon Marge and Tom one day... at the ferry to Spanish Lookout, back in January.

Marge and I were able to exchange valuable information on gaining residency, and chatted while our guys assisted a missionary vehicle that had EXITED the ferry before it was safe, leaving their VAN hanging across thin air.

our rope wasn't sufficient, so we were VERY glad when Tom arrived, and had some SERIOUS rope stashed in his truck, and he saved the day.

scroll down to More Ferry Tales for a description of the ferry incident... (about 3/4 of the way down the page)

We took off for the ferry, and when we go there found a longer line than we expected for that time of day. We looked to see where the ferry was, and realized that the line was growing because the ferry wasn’t moving, and the ferryman was trying very hard to keep it still because the first vehicle getting off had apparently misjudged when it was okay to go, and had fallen off the end of the ramp. The KIA van’s hind wheels were still on the ferry ramp, but the front wheels were off the ground and the nose of the van was resting in the weeds on the riverbank, with the van’s frame rocking on the ramp. People were crowded around the front of the van, with some people trying to lift it, some trying to rock it back up with long sticks, and others shouting instructions and encouragement.

they are a very nice couple, would like to hang out with 'em again, but we never get out that far into the Mountain Pine Ridge... (Barton Creek)

so, I've been following her build-log ever since, and referring people to her lodging.

she's so kind, she spotted my referrals on The Belize Forum, and wrote to thank me.

all in all, a great couple, with a nice place!

oh, and *dayam*

if I'd been checking my LINKS regularly, I would've SEEN that a fabulous pianist from my hometown of San Francisco... played the George Price Center a few days back!

his name is Seth Montfort, and THIS is what we missed:

Friday, April 4 - 8.00 p.m. - Piano Concert: Seth Montfort

Seth Montfort, pianist and composer is the Artistic Director of the San Francisco Concerto Orchestra & Russian River Performing Arts Center and Conservatory of Music, will be touring through Mexico, Belize and Costa Rica, offering his audience a surprising mix of a classical repertoire and his own compositions.

Montfort has won Regional, National and International Prizes and Awards for his interpretations of Standard European repertoire, but his original compositions mostly sound Mexican (Old Colonial Spanish, or Aztec, or Mayan) and reflect a lifelong desire to visit the Jungles, Cloud Forests, Deserts, Canyons, Ancient Temples, and Colonial Cities of Central-America.

Entrance Fee: $15.00 / Friends of the Centre: $10.00 / Children <12: free

With sponsorship from Pook’s Hill… The Lodge in the Jungle

googling Montfort led me to this interesting bit:

Aliens Made Me Play Gershwin, by Seth Montfort

Ancient Mayans left behind 13 Crystal Skulls they thought would be found when mankind evolved enough to understand these Skulls’ contents. Five Skulls have been located so far.

I saw the Moonracer Farm blog from a comment you made on the Belize forum and have followed it avidly from leaving NY to the present. I've also emailed Marge privately - they do seem like a lovely couple.
