ONE DEAD AND THREE CRITICALLY INJURED FOLLOWING TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

March 05, 2010

One man is dead and three other people remain in critical conditions following a traffic accident on the Western Highway earlier today. Belmopan Police responded to information of a fatal traffic accident between mile 38 and 39 in St. Matthew’s Village where they saw two vehicles extensively damaged and the passengers trapped inside. Inside the gold colored Toyota Corolla were the driver Soemi Barrientes and passengers Ulysis Augustine, Andrea Gonzalez and Carlisle Grinage.

Inside the second vehicle, a red Ford Explorer, were its driver Burton Brooks, United States national Laura Locke and another U-S national. With the assistance of the fire department the victims were taken out of the vehicles. Barrientes and Augustine were taken to the Western Regional Hospital; Gonzalez was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a critical condition while 39-year-old Carlisle Grinage reportedly died on the scene.

The occupants of the Ford Explorer were transported to the Belize Medical Associates in Belize City for treatment. Brooks and Locke are reportedly in critical conditions. Police say the Explorer was heading from the direction of Belmopan to Belize City while the Toyota Corolla was headed in the opposite direction.
