CHANGES MADE AT MEXICAN BORDER

May 03, 2010

The Government of Mexico has implemented a new set of rules that will affect all those travelling to Mexico. The new rules include an immigration form, available in English and Spanish, and took effect on May first.

Marcelino Miranda; Head of the Press and Border Section, Mexican Embassy

“This reform of the immigration rules is intended to facilitate and to simplify the proceedings at the border. Now, People who want to visit Mexico will have to fill out an immigration form and this is a unified form; that means that all visitors, tourists, students and investors have to fill out this form. It is the same form for everybody and this will be implemented with a new computer system in order to extradite the entry of visitors to Mexico. The forms can be filled out at the border at any entry to Mexico. The news rules are in Spanish and in English. Information is being provided in both languages at most of the ports of entry. There is also a website of the Immigration Authority of Mexico and it is www.inami.gob.mx.

Miranda says Belizeans in possession of a border card do not need to fill out the form.

A mate of mine took his missus up to Merida yesterday for surgery, I hope they got through okay. They got messed around enough by Belize Bank trying to transfer money here to take with them.

this is *supposed* to make the crossing smoother, and more uniform, instead of different paperwork for each type of applicant, like it was before, which led to confusion, as there's gray areas, and ambiguities.

hope your friend is okay, Paul.

The word on the street is that if you hold a Belizean passport, then yes it will expedite the process.

not yet, we wanted to do it together... I've passed the five year mark already, but Woody got here a year after me... so, we'll be looking into doing that next year.
