Cancun to Belize

How to get to Belize if you're in more or less of a hurry.

Cancun to Belize

Postby ~~Anita~~ » Sat Mar 20, 2010 8:38 am

What a Boo-Boo I made.

As a birthday present, I wanted to get Hubby a $250 dollar ticket to Cancun, ($307 with taxes). It was LAX (Los Angeles) to Cancun. Can you BELIEVE It! Well, my issue was I didn't want to use a Credit Card. It's just so easy to ignore that, and make payments whenever (on time though). I figured I would wait the next morning, when my pay check would be directly deposited into my account.

Bad mistake, because the $250 ticket had gone up to $398 plus taxes.

We had also spent the day looking up tickets with the ADO Busline, looking for an over nighter in Cancun, etc, etc.

So, it looks like I'll be on the computer, every AM till I found another sort of deal to Belize. Of course, this time I will have the credit card ready.

Anita, try from a different computer, if you can. I have noticed that flights often go up, if you leave the website and then come back to it, and sometimes if I switch to hubby's computer, the first price will be back. Kenni

I'm about to go visit the USA and do the Cancun - USA route. It will be my first time this way. I'm quite excited. I'll be doing the direct boat from San Pedro to Chetumal, then the bus to Cancun, stay the night and fly to Savannah in the morning. My round trip will be less than $500usd. I'm happy.

Hmm. Depending on the eventual price of the "coming soon" flight from SP to Belmopan, that make it easier for me to travel from Florida via Cancun, too. Kenni

For those flying into Florida, try Spirit Airlines, spiritair.com. You have to go directly to thier website. They don't use services like Expedia, etc. We got roundtrip from Tampa to Cancun for $248.00 taxes, fees, etc. for March 24. They do charge for checked bags. $19.00 online or $25.00 at checkin.

In Cancun, there is a really nice, inexpensive hotel, El Caribe, right across from the ADO bus station. Good resturant too. At the airport, the shuttle to the bus station is outside in the parking lot. We just kept asking for "bus station" and were pointed in the right direction. Lots of taxis offering but the shuttle was only a couple of dollars.

Make sure you get an Express Bus unless you want a really, really long bus ride to Chetumal.

We'll be in Xaibe from Mar 25-Apr 25 to finish up our land purchase. Then the trip back to Florida to get the truck down to the shipper. :bananas: Almost there!! :hspin:

They have lots of other destinations too. Still doesn't work out cheaper for me, but would for many.

It's always good to get more info than expected.

I was interested in lodging near the busline. Thanks Verkagj.

Another quick question, how far is the airport from the ADO busline? I've been meaning to look it up on a map. I'm sure the cab drivers know how to get from here to there. I was told they were the express bus. I think the roundtrip ticket was 254.00 (pesos I assume), which I need to convert that. Hubby said something like $50.

Zelda.....no I have not checked on another computer. I keep forgetting when I'm at work.

Don't take a cab from the airport. There are shuttle busses right there at the airport which will take you to either the Cancun ADO station or the Playa del Carmen ADO station. I've always gone to Playa, since it's heading in the right direction. It was under $US20, I think (it's been a while), for the shuttle, and a little less than an hour. I doubt a taxi would get you there much faster.

The first time, I was able to get an express to Chet right there, more recently I've had to go to the other Playa bus station (short, cheap cab ride, the lady at the first station wrote a note for me to give to the cabbie) to get the next bus to Chet.

When I was travelling that route, the exchange rate "on the street" was 10 pesos to the US$. Last official exchange rate I saw was 12.54 to 1. http://money.cnn.com/data/currencies/

Thanks for the little extra tid-bit. It really helps.

Oh, I did make it to the other computer, at work. The price was the same as my computer.

This time of the year being Spring Break and Cancun a major destination I would think most airlines flying there are running specials
